Latest Bar blog
So, I haven't given a blog update in a while..
I'm preparing my officer report for the next Union General Meeting, but I thought a daily update on the bar might be of interest!
The build process began on
Monday 3rd November: The bar is a shell! Wires are hanging from the ceiling and every bit of pipework is exposed.. The old bar, cellar, corridor, catering servery, back kitchen etc are all stripped out and gutted! The servery has also been knocked through into the lower JCR (Lounge) area. There's still a horrible red carpet in the lounge area though, with pieces cut out from where the containments for the asbestos removal were, etc.. All exciting!
The site setup begins, containers arriving and foremen setting up the site, sticking up plans around the place for people to reference.
Then, without delay, the electricians set about the task of removing all the old, redundant cabling from the ceiling.. By the end of the day, the floor is covered in old cables, with the ceiling looks much barer!
Tuesday 4th November: Temporary lighting is in place, the ceiling looking very clear, old carpet ripped up. We find that in some areas, there's three different types of flooring! There's tiles on the bottom, then a wooden / parquet flooring, and then a laminate on top! These guys have got their work cut out before they can consider laying the new solid wood flooring we're putting down!
In the afternoon, the joiners start building the new kitchen wall to separate it from the bar, and then they start putting up the first elements of the new solid ceiling that is being installed throughout. Exciting times!
More updates to follow, and some photos!
