Student Action Officer Report......
Hi all, just a little update on what's been going on in the wonderful world of volunteering since the last UGM!. Firstly, due to a slight error in calculating quoracy, the motion to change Student Action to YUSU Volunteering:Student Action in the Community did not pass - this will be resubmitted, so please get voting to change us (again, and hopefully once and for all) permanently to YUSU Volunteering:Student Action in the Community!
Aside from name changing, we have been really busy since week 4. In week 5, we held our volunteering fair, where over 200 students signed up to external volunteering organisations. Missed out? Don't worry, we've got Volunteering Fair 2 in week 8 next term, with a focus on summer/gap year placements - so look out for more information at the start of next term.
College challenges are now well underway - Langwith and Alcuin's challenges have already occurred this term, but the rest of the colleges are still to happen. Vanbrugh and Goodricke will be attempting to break the world record of planting trees on Saturday 5th December, and Halifax and James will be tackling the Campus Nursery garden on Sunday 6th December - check facebook for more details. Remember, you can go to any college challenge and win points for your own college - so if you missed your challenge please do go along sometime this weekend!
This term we held a christmas card design competition amongst our projects with children - the winning desgin has been made into a lovely cute card now available in Your: Shop for just 2 pounds for 10. Why not buy some to send to your family, and support volunteering projects at the same time?
Last night we had our BINGO night in the courtyard, which was lots of fun, and we had a few lucky winners bag some great prizes!
We also have a brand new project up and running - theatre in schools (drama workshops in local schools). For more information contact Raza at theatreinschools@yusu.org
Think thats all from me, sorry about the lengthyness. So, have a great last few weeks of term and don't forget to vote in the UGM! Rachel xx
