YUSU Volunteering have award winning projects!

Posted by Rachel Hesselwood, 25/11/2009.

Minds in Motion is a YUSU Volunteering project which works with individuals suffering from dementia, and their carers. The project has grown massively over the last few years, and currently runs workshops in a number of different units accross the York area, on themes such as music, art, and furniture refurbishment.

Minds in Motion have previously won awards for their amazing work - including this year through Higher York. Earlier in the year, they were nominated for the Guardian Public Service Awards, under the category of Citezenship and Volunteering. Last night, project coordinators Steph and Sharik went to London for the awards ceremony, and were pleased to find they won, beating KPMG and National Grid.

For more details, check out the Guardian website.

This is an amazing achievement for Steph and Sharik, the project coordinators, all volunteers at Minds in Motion, YUSU Volunteering and YUSU as a whole. It just goes to show how much our projects are appreciated, and what a difference they can really make. I'd like to congratulate all volunteers who work with Minds in Motion for their fabulous achievement.

If anyone is interested in getting involved with this award winning project, or any of our other projects working with the elderly, come along to our BINGO event on Tuesday week 8, 8pm in the Courtyard. Here you can try your chance on some lucky numbers (complete with professional callers from MECCA Bingo) and find out more about why we volunteer with the elderly

As always, for more information contact me at studentaction@yusu.org
