Week of Pride!
This week is YUSU LGBT's Week of Pride!
It's all about about showing the strength of the LGBT community through the historical and contemporary struggles they have undergone. Throughout the campaign we will explore the concept of Pride, both as a parade and a state of being. Do we need to march and wave flags for our rights? Does the carnival aspect of modern Pride parades detract from the meaning of Pride. Does it add to the poignancy of Pride?
We will be talking to real LGBT people about why they are Proud and asking them what Pride means to them. We will traverse the myriad experiences of real LGBT people, from coming out as someone who isn't on the traditional LGBT spectrum to sharing the rejection of a religious community. Its a week thats all about real people sharing real experiences, and we hope that youll take the time to read some of the stories and articles in this booklet and hopefully join us in V/045 at 19.00 on Thursday, where Jane Grenville, Celia Kitzinger and several members of the YUSU LGBT committee will be talking about their own experiences of being LGBT, and how its affected their lives.
We're also releasing a booklet called 'Being LGBT' full of people's experiences of and own articles and thoughts on LGBT issues. Look out for it!
