A few hints about our Freshers' Ball acts
The trouble with being an officer in the SU is that most of the work that we do isn't that interesting to anyone outside the building. All the behind-the-scenes administration isn't glamorous or attention-getting. The sabbatical officers spend most of the time doing paperwork, sitting in meetings and answering emails - making things work behind the scenes.
Most of the time.
Sometimes, though, those behind-the-scenes jobs get very interesting to the rest of the student population. Like the job that Matt, our Services and Finance Officer, has just finished: booking the acts for Freshers' Ball.
I'm normally really cynical about the acts that students' unions can afford to get for the big events - although I've got to admit that Alphabeat at Summerball was pretty damn good. This time, though, I think Matt's done us proud.
We're not releasing the full line-up until tickets go on sale. But here are some hints:
To start off, in the "pop" corner, we have a girl group that are making certain members of the sabbatical team rather excited.
Next up, a very credible indie band who've played festivals around the world, and who've had weeks on the Radio 1 playlist and performed sessions on 6 Music.
And finally, headlining, we have a legend. Not a musical legend: just a legend. And more than that, I cannot say. Not until September 1st, anyway.
