Tim's Blog #4. Finishing Touches

Posted by Tim Ngwena, 06/09/2009.

Hello... Wow this week has been a big one in terms of decisions and proposals.

Firstly keeping Derwent Bar open was great result, but more importantly it showed that protesting is not the only way to get our views across to the University. In this case, our proposal looked at the situation considering both students and the concerns of the University. This is by no means over but it means any action taken will be done during term time when students are on campus and in this time, students have the power to show that the bar can be profitable if given the chance. If you missed the press release then here it is again! Press Release

The other big task I've been over-seeing this week has been collating content for phase 2 of our web site redesign. The new layout and design is more fluid than the last with clear sections and zones to make navigation easy and content more accessible. I'll be doing a video blog at some point in the next week to take you on a tour round the site and show you all the new features. Tickets for Freshers' Week events will be going live tomorrow at mid-day. Online Tickets.

The end of this week saw the completion of YUSU:Studio, it's pretty much done and looking very nice, Rhianna will update you with more info on this. Now the the attention switches to the student center itself, which will be getting a much needed refurb to make the front reception more open but also bring the building in line with our branding. If your lucky, you maybe be able to get a glimpse of the work being done upstairs on Reality TV on the front page of our site. Below is an artists impression of the reception:

Lastly, I attended Campus Development Steering Group (CDSG) on Thursday. This group meets monthly to discuss the developments of the campus in Heslington East and is essentially where all proposals for campus or building expansions are discussed. At this meeting we went through some final details regarding the completion of Goodricke as well as an initial look at the development of Langwith college on Heslington East. Campus Development.

Next week I'm heading home for a quick break for a week and half to catch some sun ( if there's any left ) so I'll be posting hopefully with a video but if not then it'll be the usual post.

Keep it cool

Tim
