University of York Students’ Union

The president is the primary representative of the AU to all parties, is the only full-time worker for the AU, is a sabbatical officer of YUSU, and is responsible for the overseeing of all student sports activities and all business of the AU. The president is also responsible for ensuring the interests of members are foremost in all planning of future facilities and developments.

The VP's primary role is the administration of the college sport program, including all matters of policy, discipline and finance. The VP is also charged with supporting the president in the administration of the athletic union and in representing the AU. The vice-president is responsible for undertaking the duties of the president when s/he is absent.

The tournament secretaries organise and execute and supervise the two main interuniversity tournaments in which York competes - Roses and Varsity. Both competitions require a tremendous amount of commitment, and this ensures the secretaries are kept extremely busy throughout the year.

The secretary's duties include the proper minuting and documenting of all meetings of the AU and its committees, the production and distribution of said documents and agendas, and the collection and management of membership information.

The Ents. officer plans and manages all AU Events, excluding the AU Mart, and ensures that the interests of all parties are properly supported. This includes liaising with performers, contractors, health and safety personnel, venues, support staff, and more. The ents office will always attempt to provide events that will be attractive to the entire AU membership.

The treasurer is responsible for the financial administration of the AU including all matters of financial implication. The treasurer is focussed on both the current financial situation of the AU and on its member clubs, and through the provision of training is expected to ensure that good financial practice occurs in all clubs and all AU fiscal governance.

The I.T. officer manages and maintains the AU website and works to develop it in order to meet the requirements of the AU membership and Executive. As well as this the office is responsible for monitoring all AU clubs sites, assisting club webmasters, and helping develop and encourage practice of, policy of good practice regarding the use of I.T. resources within the university. Finally, the I.T. officer plays an advisory role within the AU regarding all matters of I.T.

The referee coordinator is responsible for managing and organising the program of referees for the college sport competition. This includes ensuring that all matches that require referees are officiated by qualified neutral referees, keeping records of the program, and distributing monies owed to referees. The coordinator also works to develop referee opportunities within the Athletic Union, and works to assist clubs with the provision of referees where possible.

The volunteer coordinator runs the Athletic Union's Sports Volunteer Program and Coach Education Scheme. She ensures that all required qualifications are obtained, liaises with schools for the placement of volunteers, and with specific sports governing bodies. Acquiring sponsorship and funding support for the programs is also one of the volunteer coordinators key functions.

The ordinary members of the AU Exec. are elected to support the other officers with the dispatch of their duties, and assist office staff where required. They are actively encouraged to pursue new projects and initiatives, and are essential to the running of the Athletic Union.
