Youth Voice Schools Conference
"Media and Society: Advances, Changes and Dangers"
Wednesday 3 November 2010 at the University of York
This event will bring together sixth form students from across North Yorkshire and provide them with a lively learning experience of debate and discussion. As we celebrate the 6th anniversary of the YOUTH VOICE Schools Conference this year, we hope to inspire broader and more diverse thought in young people. This event presents an exciting opportunity where students can gather in intellectual thought and academic debate.
This event will consist of a guided tour of the University of York for the sixth form students, mini-lectures given by University of York academics from a variety of departments, and a debate on this year’s topic: Media and Society: Advances, Changes and Dangers. The debate will allow nominated student speakers to voice their opinion on the topic. Other participating students and volunteers taking part may then pose questions.
Volunteers RequiredThis will be great to put on your CV, and to get experience in volunteering work with the wider community.
We need enthusiastic volunteers to steward sixth form/college pupils for this annual event. The event lasts from 9:30a.m. to 2:30p.m. on Wednesday 3rd November. If you can only spare a few hours within this schedule, your help will still be very much appreciated.
Volunteers would need to direct pupils to the designated areas and steward the events we have organised, such as campus tours and a variety of lectures. During the actual debate, there is an opportunity (but not an obligation) to participate as part of the audience.
